Basics
Name: Astrid Jane Dewar
Gender: female
Age: 15
Birthday: November 11th
Place of Birth: Hollywood, California
Family Situation: parents are divorced
Living Situation: her parents both travel so Astrid lives essentially on her own with household staff to look after her needs
Personality: [Worldly] From her childhood until beginning her attendance at Phoenix High, Astrid was ever traveling the world in the tow of one of her parents. She is very aware of cultural differences and tends to adapt easily on instinct. Never having spent time amongst her peers she has never looked at persons her own age as equals. Astrid considers herself sophisticated and while not knowingly arrogant she certainly can be.
[Disconnected] In spite of her cultural awareness Astrid is very disconnected from all things political and current. She tends to be so wrapped up in her own little world at Phoenix that she can seem ignorant.
[Anarchistic] Though without much care for political motivations, Astrid is quite anarchistic. She rebels against authority on pure principle and has spent her fair share of time in the principle's office discussing her future at the school. Having been kicked out of the private school she originally attended she tries not to get into any serious trouble but can't seem to help herself.
[Superstitious] If one tried to peg her religious beliefs as following any one faith it would be nearly impossible. Having been exposed to such a vast array of religious and spiritual flavors it comes as no surprise that she picks and chooses her flavor of the day. Bouncing from belief to belief faster than the seasons change. Her fascination, however, reigns primarily around pagan practices and mythology.
[Contradictory] If anyone bothered to pay close enough attention to Astrid's personality beyond the surface they'd find she struggles with her ever swinging moods controlling her interests. Something she hates one day may be her favorite thing the next. Her mother tried to convince her she's bi-polar but Astrid's therapist insists she just needs more structure in her life.
[Labeled] What Astrid does suffer from is mild OCD and epilepsy. She has to take medication to control her epilepsy and she sees a therapist once a week to help with her OCD and other issues stemming from her unusual childhood, suicide attempt and substance abuse.
[Promiscuous] Possessed of a certain precociousness from her early years it came as no surprise that Astrid lost her virginity when she was fourteen. Raised by and surrounded by celebrities all her life the "sex, drugs and rock'n'roll" lifestyle was all around her. Her parents split left her constantly seeking attention and affection from whomever would give it to her. Since coming to Phoenix she has been much less sexual but no less needy when it comes to attention and affection.
[Emotional] In her own way Astrid is quite the roiling mass of emotion. Were it not for Thomas's involvement in her life she might have ended up in rehab or worse. She has a lot she feels and a lot she needs to express. She falls in and out of love with people around her quickly whether they would ever know it or not. Having that older, mature confidant in Thomas, though completely improper and immoral on his part, has done more for her than her therapy does. Hopefully she finds what she's looking for someday or she will be one of those tragic Hollywood stories in her mother's closet.
Hobbies: Shopping, dance and travel.
Job: Astrid doesn't have to work, but she has been debating modeling part-time.
Physical
Avatar: Megan Fox
Height: 5' 7"
Build: Athletic, but feminine
Hair: Black, long
Eye: Blue
Other: Lots of freckles, scars on her wrists from a suicide attempt when she was twelve and a couple of small tattoos.
General Appearance: Astrid comes from the world of money and fashion. It seems only natural she wears clothing that costs far more than it should and she's never behind the trends. Whatever is fashionable and in is what she's wearing. Her favorite colors are blue and pink, but she wears a lot of white. Her ears are pierced and she always wears jewelry of some kind, her most important being bracelets to hide her scarred wrists. Most of the time she's in a skirt or dress of some kind, so seeing her in pants is odd.

Grade: sophomore
Favorite Classes: Mythology, Geography, Drama
Sports: might try out for cheerleading
Extra Curriculars: Drama club
History
Background: When Veronica Castle, Hollywood's "It" girl of the moment, decided to have a baby the world was shocked. Having recently married famous French fashion photographer Henri Dewar, Veronica decided it was time to have a family. Unfortunately, Veronica was unable to physically carry a baby herself so she and Henri were forced to adopt. Of course foreign adoptions hadn't become so trendy yet so she chose to adopt locally. Veronica and Henri privately screened a handful of young pregnant mothers and chose the one they wanted and when the baby was born they became the happy parents of a baby girl. In true Hollywood fashion they gave her the uncommon name Astrid and all their famous friends lavished presents on the baby.
From then on it was a living from suitcases, being cared for by nannies, assistants and tutors. Henri traveled much more than Veronica but managed to form a close bond with Astrid. He wrote her letters and encouraged her interest in ballet from the age of five. Astrid's relationship with her mother, however, was not quite so simple. The two fought constantly as Astrid struggled with needing attention that her mother just wasn't able to spare. She spent most of her time buried in books, studying mythology, ballet and the dramatic arts. The latter at her mother's insistance. Though kept busy by activities, what Astrid really longed for was to have somewhere to belong. A permanent residence. A real family.
At the age of eight Veronica sat her down and explained that she and Henri were getting a divorce. Apparently their time apart had finally taken it's toll on the marriage they had tried to fake. Henri wanted a divorce and was making a permanent home in Paris with his new girlfriend. The divorce had a bigger impact on Veronica than she had anticipated and cocaine became a regular part of her life. Astrid bounced between her mother's home in Los Angeles or where ever she was currently working and her father's home in Paris. Eventually Henri remarried, his wife Vivienne, a model twelve years his junior. With some tensions between she and her step-mother it was only a matter of time before it became harder to visit her father.
Never having attended a real school, Astrid found herself constantly wishing she were normal. That she could go to a normal school with normal kids and return home to a normal home with a dog and parents who ate dinner at the same table each evening. She started to write dark, suicidal poetry when she was ten and took up electronic harp to write depressing songs that reflected her state of mind. It seemed only natural the next step was to try it herself. Unfortunately for Astrid, she didn't research what she was doing and the slits she made on her wrists only ended up making ugly scars and getting her into therapy.
When her mother had parties, the woman-child joined the adults. She knew the ugly side of Hollywood for what it really was. It was at her thirteenth birthday party that Astrid started using drugs. It started with cocaine and moved to prescription drugs and eventually dabbling in heroine which she has since dropped. With her drug problem came plenty of adult attention and for some reason her mother never seemed to notice.
Dragging Astrid to India for four months while filming what would hopefully be her Oscar-winning movie role, Veronica hired the tutor that would change Astrid's life. With his cool British charm and great education, Thomas Goodchild was everything an emotionally needy fourteen year old could look for in a man who was closer to her mother's age than her own. Thomas listened to her as if she were an adult, talked to her about things that were deep and insightful. For a while Astrid had everything she wanted from her parents but wasn't getting- attention, respect, advice. But she was also getting something else- sexual awakening.
After leaving India, Astrid kept in touch with Thomas. Though she had never expected more from him than what she had been getting she had found that one valuable adult in her life who could be counted on whenever she needed him. She was able to drop heroin without treatment, which was no small feat, and she started looking forward to the future with some sight of what she wanted in life. Astrid still had plenty of problems from her constant struggle for her mother's approval to her out-of-hand need to be involved with much older men.
Fortunately for Astrid her mother bought a house in Phoenix that summer and after much begging, enrolled Astrid in a school. The private school situation lasted only about six weeks before Astrid got in trouble and her mother was forced to put Astrid into public school. At first it was awesome, she and her mom did not share the same last name and there were plenty of other affluent students at Phoenix so her arriving in an expensive car driven by a man who looked like a bodyguard was not so odd. But having to adapt to the social structure of kids her own age was rough. Having never had to relate to her peers she didn't always get along with them, her natural arrogance didn't win her many friends. But by the time spring prom rolled around Astrid had caught the eye of a senior and his attention got her into the popular crowd pretty easily. Since then she has been in that snootiest of snooty groups despite the fact she secretly thinks they are shallow and stupid.
Sample RP: (from Thornburry Academy of Arts RPG)
Being one of the seventh year costume design students and a visual art major, Astrid spent way too much time whiling away the hours in the prop rooms. This evening wasn't much of an exception. One would think the first Friday night back in school would have everyone out at the pubs and clubs celebrating the new term. Getting drunk and table dancing appealed to Astrid as much as the next girl but after all the drama over the summer with her mother over Thomas she was trying to stay out of the public eye until it was old news. Let Paris, Nikki and the royals rule the tabloids for a while. Why did kids who were born into fame get the same treatment as their parents when it came to the stalkerazzi? Assholes.
Thankfully there was more than one way to spend a Friday night for a Thornburry student. There was a small party going on somewhere in the dorms but it was invite only and Astrid was not on the guest list. One of the student formed bands was having an improptu accoustic session in the great hall. She'd only stayed for the first song before someone asked her if she was sleeping with the headmaster. The jokes about her dating old men hadn't let up and it had been a week already. Astrid had tossed what was left of her iced mocha on the bitch and exited stage right.
Though she'd never admit it this was when she felt most clingy in regards to Thomas. When people made fun or talked down their relationship she tended to call him. Not to tell him or mention any grievance but to be reassured their relationship was still okay with him. The prop room where all the weaponry was locked up was one of her secret hiding places. Even her own dorm room wasn't this isolated and quiet. Especially on a Friday night.
Ever present, lightly bouncing on her hip was Astrid's messenger bag where her laptop resided. Setting it up on the prop room table next to a pile of chain mail vests that the class had been repairing earlier that day she dug through some homemade CDs and popped one in to play. Being a dance student she was always making music CDs she could pop in at a moment's notice and move to. Music flooded the prop room with a pop-iffied techno beat and the unmistakable growl of Damon Albern. As if a puppet on strings being forced to move against her will a shiver flowed through Astrid making her head move and a bounce coming into her step as she set about going through the prop racks. Humming along to the Gorillaz she sorted out some materials she wanted and moved to the table.
As she set them down she noticed an instant message window had popped up on her screen.
colourblynd26: Are you there, luv?
It was Thomas. Frowning, Astrid leaned over the table and pulled her computer closer. Curse her wireless. She wanted to call him, to hear his voice. To feel that comforting presence even from half a world away. She hadn't called him this time for a reason. As much as she was hiding it Astrid wanted some kind of commitment from Thomas. Something more than just a summer fuckbuddy and a friend the rest of the time. Not that she wasn't already craving some physical contact. It would be a matter of probably another week before she went out to the clubs and hooked up with another older guy. In her early years at Thornburry Astrid had never had a problem sleeping with the sixth and seventh years but now that she was a seventh year she couldn't find anyone older really. Maybe it was some kind of sickness. Some dirty fetish but Astrid just wasn't attracted to guys her own age.
A second Im came in from Thomas asking the same question. Fuck it what did she have to lose? Maybe talking to Thomi would make her feel better.
iheartvintage: yeah
colourblynd26: good. you haven't called, you okay?
iheartvintage: Been busy, we're prepping for phantom of the opera
colourblynd26: Are you going to audition this time? ;)
iheartvintage: hell no I don't sing
iheartvintage: why aren't you out tonight?
colourblynd26: my date is coming here, I'm making her dinner
A sick feeling hit Astrid in the stomach. Their relationship was and had always been open, no ties just some twisted mix of sex and fun that only lasted when they were in the same city. Until this summer that had been good enough for Astrid but somehow she found herself wanting more.
iheartvintage: oh. well I should letyou get back to her, I have work here anyway.
Astrid stared at her response for a moment before hitting 'enter'. When she did she bit her bottom lip and watched the cursor on her screen blink for a several moments before Thomas responded. The CD switched to Fiona Apple's "Criminal", which only unnerved Astrid more.
colourblynd26: you ok? You sound like something is worng..
iheartvintage: I'm fine just have my hands full with prep tonite. :D
colourblynd26: I could call if you want me to lol
colourblynd26: ;-D
iheartvintage: no it's okay you and your date have fun I'll talk to you later
Before Thomas could reply Astrid turned her instant messenger off. Why couldn't she just tell him? What was she afraid of? A little voice inside whispered the word 'rejection' and she squashed it away. Fine, if Thomas was going to be sleeping with someone else tonight, Astrid was going to do the same. The night was still young she could put all of these props back and get out to the club by eleven which was plenty of time to find some desperate older guy. More than enough times Astrid had approached some poor old sod who found the temptation of bedding a girl her age too good to resist.
'Heaven help me for the way I am
Save me from these evil deeds before I get them done'
Astrid started to put things back on the prop shelves, trying to ignore the words of the song. There were some emotions she really hated dealing with and the sting of rejection was one she wanted to ignore. Even still she hated herself for what she was going to do. She loved Thomas, no other man could be Thomas no matter what she tried to tell herself. Pausing she leaned against the shelf and wiped her eyes as a little sniffle escaped her.
